Building a Multi-use Restaurant Image Library

An anonymous restaurant group needed a coherent dish library for print menus, website updates, delivery platforms and social content within a single production window.

Challenge

The client needed many dishes photographed for multiple channels but had limited kitchen time and a menu that mixed bestsellers with new items. Previous photography was inconsistent in angle, background and crop, making reuse across print and digital layouts difficult.

Planning approach

Dishes were ranked by sales data and menu section importance. The shot list grouped items by styling family and lighting setup so the kitchen could prepare in batches. Each priority dish received a primary composition plus an alternate crop-friendly frame where time allowed.

Visual strategy

Two angle families were used across the menu—three-quarter hero views for signature dishes and tighter overhead-friendly frames for shareable items and bowls. Background tone stayed consistent so disparate categories felt like one library rather than separate shoots.

Production method

Photography moved setup by setup rather than chasing every menu category in isolation. A single on-site contact approved substitutions when ingredients were unavailable. Retouching prioritised readability at small thumbnail size for delivery apps.

Deliverables

  • Retouched hero images for priority menu sections
  • Web-optimised JPEG exports with consistent naming
  • Delivery-platform crops for horizontal and square listings
  • Alternate crops for social templates where scoped

Outcome

The client received a structured image library that could support menu print, website updates and platform listings without reshooting individual items for each channel. Visual consistency improved while angle variation kept the menu from feeling repetitive.

This case study describes an anonymous quick-service and casual dining operator refreshing a broad menu across print and digital channels. No performance statistics or revenue claims are included—the focus is production planning and adaptable image use.
